Pop. Clink. Fizz. New Year’s Eve is here yet again! Man, did this year fly by or what?! The hype of finding the perfect New Year’s Eve outfit has begun, after all it is the last outfit of 2016 and your first outfit of 2017. I am personally beyond excited for 2017…17 is my favorite number! I feel some good things coming my way, and I will be sure to send the positive vibes your way. Although my New Year’s Eve plans are low-key, I am still here to give you babes some NYE style advice. Keep scrolling to see my sparklicious look.
New Year’s Eve is always an excuse to dress extra glam and extra sparkly. Glitter is my favorite color, and my boyfriend’s worst nightmare (and probably Andrew’s least favorite, as glitter got all over the front seat of his car after this photoshoot). As much as a I love glitter and sparkle, wearing an all sequin dress is not always for everybody. Sometimes that tight little sequined dress can be a bit unflattering, and quite honestly, sometimes it makes you look larger. Do not worry babes, you can still be decked out in sequins in a flattering way!
Vintage shops are notorious for having beautiful sequined dresses, tops, and vests that come from the the 1920s. Sometimes the fit looks like it is from the 20s, and it is something your grandma would wear, but do not let that intimidate you. Perhaps you find a dress you love, but the length is not right, or it has shoulder pads? Look into getting the dress altered to a shorter hemline, and take the shoulder pads out.
I found this stellar kimono at a vintage shop in Austin, TX called Feathers. They have an amazing selection of vintage pieces. This piece adds an unexpected flare of sparkle. I decided to pair it with a mock neck crop top, faux leather studded skirt, and my over the top statement necklace.
I topped off the look with my black sparkle heels and black tights. This look is perfect for the babe who wants to dress up, but not too formal. The glitter kimono dresses up the look a bit, but does not set it over the top. It also looks great with a pair of black denim and a white tee.
Can we take a moment and recognize how amazing the pattern is in this kimono?
Perhaps your local vintage shop did not have that glitter kimono you have been hunting for. Try pairing a sequin top with leather pants, black denim, or a simple black skirt. NYE is the time to have fun with your look, so why not go all out?!
If you already own the perfect sequin skirt, try pairing it with a silk blouse tucked in. You can do the “Cali Tuck”, where you tuck in only the front, or you can tuck it all the way in for a polished look.
No matter what fabulous look you go with for NYE 2016, you will be shining like a star into the New Year. I hope y’all have a safe and amazing New Year’s Eve! Cheers my Fashion Ave Babes!
