Cold weather has never been my thing. I grew up in Illinois until I went off to college in Alabama and my family moved to Texas. Once I went home to Texas over the holidays, I never left. Until of course, I moved to California…I think you can see a pattern in my love for warm states. Anyways, although I love dressing in layers, sweaters, and boots; I have never been a fan of under 50 degree temperatures.
I would describe my style as boho chic incorporated with trend pieces; which does not always mesh well with frigid temperatures. Let’s be real, I love my flowy dresses, embroidered tops, and crocheted shorts. If you live somewhere that experiences winter, I am sure you have made the sacrifice of freezing your booty off to wear a particular outfit. Now, my boho babe, you can dress in your fave ensemble with the help of my 7 tips to dressing boho all winter long.
7 Tips to Dress Boho During Winter
No matter what season, boho babes around the world tend to layer. Whether it’s layering a kimono over a tank top, or layering necklaces; layers help create a unique look. Layer a chunky cardigan over your favorite maxi dress this fall/winter. Is it super cold? Add a pair of tights under your dress and a long sleeve tee under the maxi, as well as your chunky sweater. You can even wear an oversized pull over sweater, layover over your maxi dress to give the look of a skirt. I am wearing this maxi from Tobi.com.
2. Add a hat
Hats are crucial during the winter weather. I have heard thousands of times from my Grammie and mama to always keep my ears covered when it is cold out, and that a hat will keep all the heat inside my head. Guess that’s why some call me a hot head…get it? (bad joke…sorry) A wool hat is sure to keep you warm this season. I opted for a cowboy style hat, bringing Texas to Cali…also don’t let the beach fool you it was cold! Wide brimmed hat not your style? Try a beanie!
Oversized garments lead for the perfect bohemian look. Pair an oversized sweater or cardigan with your favorite maxi. More of a jeans babe? Pair your distressed denim with an oversized kimono ,with your favorite sweater or long sleeve tee, tucked into your favorite light wash jeans. Extra chunky and over sized knits are an essential for all burr worthy boho looks.
Accessories always add flare to any ensemble. When the temperature drops, grab a boho printed scarf to toss on with your sweater. Also try a chunky knit scarf or oversized scarf. Create a carefree look by wearing an oversized knit scarf as a wrap, that hangs loosely off one shoulder. You can also pull it together into a more chic look, by belting the scarf as a vest. Don’t forget to pile on the bangles and create a killer ring stack!
Although I’m pulling off the barefoot Cali cold weather boho babe, it’s time for most of my bohemian gals to swap the sandals for boots. A pair of ankle booties, like these, pair perfectly with any boho ensemble whether it be jeans, skirts, or dresses. If you don’t want to invest in an expensive pair, and want the worn in look check your local thrift shop!
6. Add Tights
I love peasant styled dresses in eclectic, boho prints. Sport a long sleeved short dress with peasant sleeves, a pair of tights, and some over the knee boots. Add a fun faux fur jacket to add some extra flare, and to keep nice and cozy.
