Do you ever see something when you are shopping and say, “That’s so ugly! I’d never wear that!”–fast forward one month, and you are sporting the piece or look you said you would never wear? Yeah, I have done the same thing. After working retail for nearly seven years, I have experienced first hand of a trend growing on you. There would be many times a piece would come in that I would hate. After seeing so many people try it on and having it in my hands multiple times, I would eventually fall in love with the piece for it’s uniqueness.
Sometimes it takes a while for trends to grow on us. There is nothing wrong with that, maybe it’s our insecurities coming out because we are looking for acceptance through others, or perhaps it is the fact we are not always open to new ideas. Regardless, I have put together a list of trends we were hesitant about at first, but cannot stop wearing now.
10 It Girl Trends We Love To Hate
1.) Mom Jeans
Whether you like it or not, the mom jean is back. Instead of the bare all high waist short, the high waist jean that fits tightly around the bum leading into a loose fit is here to stay. Now through spring 2017, you will see the fit in various styles from embroidered to cropped to raw edge hems.
It girls have brought the blast from the past back. This 90s style necklace is an instant cool girl update, but it definitely is a love to hate kind of look. A choker always gives a look instant sex appeal, and has an edgy feel. If you think these bad boys are outdated, think again because these necklaces are getting a 2016/2017 makeover.
3.) Witty Graphics
The graphic tee has been having a moment for a while now, with their witty sayings and mood describing quotes. With embroidery being a huge upcoming trend, especially for spring 2017, witty graphics are still on heavy rotation. Whether it’s a positive saying, or silly mood explaining word you will be seeing a lot of pieces that scream YOU.
4.) Un-done Dos
If you are someone who loves their hair perfectly straight, or having the perfect bounce and shine to your curls, I am sure you are apprehensive about this hair craze. For most of us, you can’t help but love a messy do. Now that the shag cut is having a serious moment, messy un-done dos are a total DO. Bedhead is a sexy look for any it girl, even if she takes an hour to get the perfect messy ponytail.
Ahh, yes, the bodysuit. Bodysuits are great when you are wearing a skirt or high waisted skinnies, and you do not want that t-shirt pooch from tucking in your blouse. I prefer a thong bodysuit because I hate pantylines. The different variations of bodysuits are great and have catered to various styles.
Although, I must admit my inner 90s child is coming out when I have to use the restroom in public. Sometimes I cannot get the dang thing snapped back up, or I am casually naked squatting over the toilet. Either way, totally cute but totally awkward potty situation.
6.) Lace-up Bodices
This trend has been fire. It is so sexy, yet can also be sweet. Even though it seems a bit over done now, because let’s face it anything that laces up has been selling like hotcakes, it is still a great look. It is almost as though you do not want to buy anymore lace up bodysuits, sweaters, tees, or dresses because you know everyone is going to have it; but you also cannot help yourself because it looks so good on.
7.) Cropped Denim Flares
The only reason I find this trend a love/hate is simply because it does not always look flattering on every body type. It is difficult to find a pair that fits you perfectly, and compliments your figure. Other than that, these jeans are totally cute and pair perfectly with your chunky heel sock ankle booties.
8.) Bomber Jackets
The 80s jacket has made a major comeback. You can find bombers in everything from silk, nylon, leather, and denim. These jackets are the perfect touch to your look to give is a sporty vibe. Perfect for the girl who loves athleisure apparel!
9.) Oversized Everything
There seems to be a bit of a gender blur in clothing nowadays, and I am all for it. Instead of stealing your boyfriend’s sweaters or jackets, now you can find oversized denim jackets, anoraks, and sweaters in the women’s department. Although I love an oversized sweater or jacket, it can look sloppy if not worn in the proper manner.
10.) Button Front Mini Skirts
A trend from the 90s is back again. You can find button front mini skirt just about anywhere at the moment. They pair well with nearly everything and look adorable on. Not to mention, a cute mini skirt is a must-have in every closet. So, if you have been avoiding denim mini skirts the past decade, it’s time to rotate them to the front of your closet.
