Sexy slits, texture, and fur; Prabal Gurung’s F/W 16/17 collection is inspired by Henri Rousseau’s “Walking in an Exotic Forest” along with Lord Byron’s “She Walks in Beauty”. His use of fur, leather, feather graphics, calf hair, and actual feathers, takes you on a majestic walk through the forest.
I get the feeling of walking through a fantasy forrest, with almost Native American Indian vibes. I also get an elegant, sophisticated feel with the combination of delicate colors and soft silhouettes.
Fur can easily be a been there, done that look. I feel Prabal’s F/W 16/17 collection is a breath of fresh air. The fact he used multiple variations of fur, feathers, and calf hair allows us to reintroduce these fabrics into our wardrobe in a new way this Fall/Winter. I love the use of feathers on the blouse below. It is a polished, yet modern look.
I have not watched many episodes of Games of Thrones, but I feel many of these ensembles could be worn by characters on the show. You have a delicate princess like dress, with a simple silhouette. Yet, when the look is paired with a choker embellished with feathers, you get a warrior snow princess look.
My favorite look from the entire collection has to be the textured knit long sweater with side slits, paired with the silk skirt with lace accents. Layering is one of my favorite looks during the fall and winter seasons. I feel all of Prabal Gurung’s pieces in his collections are very wearable for all occasions.
