I always have been, and always will be a glitter girl. As my bestie, Olivia, says “I’m like a fish, I like anything shiny.” Now, I am not quite sure if fish are truly attracted to anything shiny, but I know I sure am. Whenever I see a glitter handbag, shoes, shirt, jacket, whatever it may be, I automatically think “NEED!” in my head. Since I have this proclaimed love for glitter, you would assume I love metallics, right? Wrong! Until recently, I have not been sold on this metallic trend that has been trying to happen for the past couple of years. I have always thought, stop trying to make metallics happen, it’s not going to happen. I am not sure what changed in my life that has recently altered my opinion on metallics, but I am starting to become obsessed with all these shiny, eye catching materials.
Let’s get one thing straight, metallics are not easy to pull off and yes, they can be quite difficult to style. If you are looking for a style challenge, metallics are for you. I am still not sold on metallic clothing. I feel as though you need to be a twig for it to look decent, but I do love a good metallic shoe.
I am sure you’re thinking, Victoria, why shoes and not handbags? I dig the metallic handbag, but metallic shoes are a total win when it comes to metallic fashion. You can dress as simple as you want and throw on a pair of metallic shoes to draw all of the attention to your feet. Bad hair day? Rock some metallic oxfords. No makeup on? Metallic sneaks to save the day! Wearing a LBD out for the evening? Amp up your look with metallic pumps. To be honest, you can’t really go wrong. It may look a bit funky at first, but I think that’s the thing about metallics…they don’t necessarily have to match perfectly.
I have realized my style tends to be very cohesive, and when wearing multiple colors I tend to coordinate the colors perfectly throughout my ensemble. For instance, black jeans, turquoise top, black earrings, black shoes. See what I mean? Wearing metallics is a bold and fashion forward move. If you like a cohesive look try wearing jewelry the same color as your metallic shoes. For instance, my metallic platforms are silver. I paired my platforms with a basic white tee, navy skort, and basic silver accessories. You can still have a unified look with funky shoes!
