I will never forget the moment I was driving downtown with my bestie to grab a cocktail or two, and a chick in a unitard caught our eye. Not only was she wearing a unitard (a tight full body leotard), but it was also nude. We both looked at each other and started laughing. As we drove up the street we spotted another unitard girl. What was going on? Was this a new thing? Thanks Instagram, you’ve started another stupid trend that neither of us could quite understand why it was a trend. Why would anyone want to wear a full on unitard to the bars? Were they trying to look like they just got out of dance class? Wouldn’t it be difficult to use the restroom? There was some serious investigation I needed to do in order to see if these chicks really knew what was up. For this investigation we are going to switch the word unitard, for catsuit.
The funny part about this catsuit trend is I already had one in my closet! Of course, it was actually in my costume box from when I would attend various themed frat parties in college, but I had a catsuit. This little number was actually my mom’s from the late 80s, early 90s. Unlike the nude, troll catsuit I spotted, mine was backless with a deep V, halter neckline, with a studded front. I pulled it out of my costume box and tried it on. Let me tell you, I was pleasantly surprised! I had a little side boob action going on, it made my booty look phenomenal, and boy was it comfy! I figured I had to find an occasion to wear this out one night.
I ended up sporting this catsuit to one of my bestie’s going away dinners with my Jeffery Campbell t-strap heels, my favorite Kendra Scott earrings, and my spiked leather jacket from Tobi. I tossed my dry shampooed hair into a high pony to show off my back, when I decided to take the jacket off. It was definitely an urban chic look, with a dash of disco, and also one of the most comfortable outfits I have worn out in a long time! I could dance like crazy without worrying about a wardrobe malfunction, and I felt it was the perfect amount of sexy and revealing. The only negative was I was practically naked when I would go to the bathroom, but hey I guess that is the price you have to pay to look good.
All in all, I would say a catsuit is a great investment! However, make sure it is not nude because nobody wants to look naked. But, hey, maybe looking naked is your thing, so go for it! Also, make sure your catsuit is the right size, because a wedgie in the front is not a good look on anyone. Wear a heel and add a cute leather or denim jacket, or statement necklace to dress up the look. The key when wearing your catsuit is to accessorize so you do not look like you just got out of dance class. So babes, release your inner Sandy and try sporting your very own catsuit! I think you will be just as surprised as I was when you test out the look yourself.
