You don’t call it Fri-yay for no reason, on Friday, November 6 I attended a night full of fashion, cocktails, and shopping. Fashion X Austin and Bernina presented BLANC, a fashion event featuring Texas based designers and a pre-holiday shopping event with some of the hottest brands in the Texas fashion scene. The event was held at Fair Market on E. 5th St. Personally, I have never attended an event inside Fair Market, but I have taken photos outside and loved the vibe. It was a black and white affair, and I chose to go with an all black ensemble. I wore a black romper, tights, my favorite velvet blazer from Nasty Gal, and platform combat boots. I accessorized with my great grandfather’s military belt and earrings from Mirina Collections.
As soon as I walked in the ambiance of the room captured me. The ceilings were strung with large bulbed lights creating a festive and elegant look. At the front of the room was a stage where there were live fashion presentations by Rare Trends, Adrienne Yunger, Wildflowers Boutique, M.V.C.C, SoLa, Mysterious by NPN, and followed by the top 12 finalists for the Bernina BLANC Design Challenge.
Beginning my route to the stage, I decided to browse through the pop-up shops along the way. I stumbled upon beGlammed, an app that delivers a personal beauty team right to your door. A team member was there offering makeup touch ups and lashes. Since it was my first stop of the night I did not need the services at the time, but it would have been great to utilize before heading out for the evening. They offer blowouts, up-dos, makeup, and even makeup parties! I will most defiantly have to test out this service for my next big event.
I am sure you are aware by now that I have a shopping problem, so being surrounded by various of beautiful and unique items was a challenge. I was especially obsessing over Adrienne Yunger’s bridal separates and all of the Dalpaca furs by Darrin Davis. What makes Dalpaca fur so incredible is all of his furs are top quality alpaca fur from Peru, however no animals are killed. The fur is taken from alpacas that have died due to natural causes. Darrin’s fur is truly a guilt free fur. Dalpaca also gives a portion of all sales to Casa de Milagros, an orphanage in Sacred Valley, Peru. If this doesn’t give you a reason to buy some soft fur, I don’t know what will.
While making my way to the stage I happened to run into a friend of mine and a finalist in the Bernina Design Challenge, Stefanie Bell. Stefanie is an extremely talented designer with a smile that can light up any room. I had the opportunity to chat with her and ask her a few questions about her design that would be showcased later in the evening.
Stefanie’s inspiration came from the Swiss Alps, when the sun sets and gently grazes the snowy peaks of the mountains. Stefanie has been designing for nine years. I asked her what her favorite thing about being a is designer, and she replied with, “My favorite thing about being a designer is the imagination and creativity you put into a design makes it feel as though it is your baby, and you slowly watch it grow and come to life. The runway is the world for you to set it free. It is an incredible feeling to watch something that is ‘yours’ come to life. Just as it is an unexplainable feeling watching your child grow up.” She is currently working on a line, which you can expect her big comeback next spring.
Neil Marek- Winner of Bernina Blanc Design Challenge
I was loving Neil’s design for the the Bernina Design Challenge. Apparently the judges were too, because he won the competition! As the winner of the Bernina Blanc Design Challenge Neil received more than a $20,000 prize package. How incredible is that?! It was very well deserved. The work put into his entire creation was impeccable. I spoke with this winner and Dallas based designer for a moment to ask him where his inspiration came from.
Neil’s inspiration came from a Japanese samurai outfit. He used the piping on the shoulders and back to represent the armor. However, he did not want the harshness of the samurai ensemble, so he created softness by using sheer fabric. The added tassels on the pant drawstring and handbag gave the look an exotic feel. The small details such as the zipper accents and pipping is what made me adore his design. From the jewely, accessories, shoes, and fabric was our perfection. Congratulations Neil, we look forWrd to seeing more of you phenomina
Venny-Fan Vote Winner of the Bernina Blanc Design Challenge
No wonder this was a fan vote, I absolutely adore this look by Venny. I am a coordinating set lover and this suits my every need for a winter look. The lines are clean and consistent throughout the entire ensemble. The dramatic angular lines on the bottom of the pant leg and crop top give it a modern and sophisticated look. The metallic pants are a total killer, and I am typically not one for metallics (even though glitter is my favorite color ;p).
SoLa is a women’s fashion boutique located here in Austin, TX. They offer classic yet unique, eclectic styles that truly focus on a woman’s confidence and femininity. SoLa provides exceptional personal styling sessions that can help you build your confidence…and your wardrobe. What I love about SoLa is they offer fashion forward looks at a reasonable price that will not break the bank.
At Fashion x: BLANC they had some incredible looks that could be worn to a holiday party or can be worked into your daily wardrobe. Let me just say, it was near impossible to resist the glitter jumper.
Mysterious by NPN
Nicholas Phat Nguyen, is the face behind Mysterious by NPN. He was born in Ho Chi Minh City, and came to America at the young age of 15 to pursue his dream of becoming a fashion designer. Since, he has already shown at New York Fashion Week, Houston Artopia, and Austin Fashion Week, and there is not a doubt in my mind that there are many big things coming his way.
His collection was outstanding! I loved the Eastern cultural he brought into his designs. From the colors, to the patterns, to the cut everything was perfect. His line had sophisticated sex appeal, and many of the gowns I could see popping up on a red carpet event. During the entire presentation I was that obnoxious girl yelling, “YASSS! OMG YAAASSS!!” I simply could not help myself everything was incredible. Just see for yourself in the photos below! (side note: please excuse my blurry photos)
Bernina Blanc Design Challenge Finalist
Overall, I had a fantastic time at Fashion x: BLANC. I met some awesome people and caught up with old friends. Not to mention, I witnessed some pretty killer looks during the presentations. I look forward to many more Fashion X events, as they are always a grand time.
